to be young and in love

junk in the trunk

The only possible explanation for Ms. Cathy Kapica's hallucinations about the high quality of McDonald's food and her insistence that it can balance into a nutritionally complete diet (seeing that she's ultimately responsible for this PR and for the health of billions served), is that she's the love slave of pictured here Ronald McDonald. Says Kapica, "I work with nutritionists in many countries to develop tools customized to local cultures that help customers tailor their McDonald’s experience to their unique needs. " I happen to know myself how delusional one can become when seduced by clowns, especially sensitive manly clowns. And call me a pervert but I'd like to know: where is that cone gonna go later?

Who would have thought that the cleaniest thing in a fast food joint would be the toliet water? A middle school science project revealed that ice cubes from five fast food restaurants in South Florida had more bacteria than the water in their toliets. Among the goodies they found in the ice was E. coli bacteria, which comes from human waste.

What will they think of next? Ear wax buildup causes urinary tract infection? Pink eye linked to heart disease? Smoking causes lung cancer? Oh wait….that one's true, and so might this: Research shows that women with moderate-to-severe periodontal disease during pregnancy had an increased risk of pre-term delivery. It's being speculated that in some women, oral bacteria enters the bloodstream and expose the baby to harmful bacteria and may alert the immune system to send "deliver baby now" signals to the uterus.

Infant Formula Recall

February 25, 2006

Once in a while here at HealthbeTold, we actually report news that is helpful. Here's one: The FDA recently recalled certain 24-ounce cans of GENTLEASE powdered infant formula because they contained small metal ninja stars particles. The affected cans contained the lot number BMJ19, use by 1 Jul 07. The FDA said about 41,464 cans of the formula were distributed beginning on Dec. 16, 2005 through retail stores across the country.

Subway: Eat Preservatives

February 24, 2006

Subway, the health conscious fast food chain tell's us to "Eat Fresh". But today, after eating one of their chicken sandwiches, I thought to myself, "how on earth could a piece of chicken breast, nuked in the microwave for 20 seconds after sitting in the fridge all day, turn out to be so darn tender and chewy." Well, truth health be told (clever huh?)……

CHICKEN BREAST PATTY Chicken breast with rib meat, water, seasoning (corn syrup solids, vinegar powder [maltodextrin, modified corn starch & tapioca starch, dried vinegar], brown sugar, salt, dextrose, garlic powder, onion powder, chicken type flavor [hydrolyzed corn gluten, autolyzed yeast extract, partially hydrogenated soybean oil and cottonseed oil, thiamine hydrochloride, disodium inosinate & disodium guanylate]), sodium phosphate. May contain: soy sauce powder [fermented soybeans, wheat, salt], lemon juice solids, dextrin, natural flavors [including smoke flavor], flavor [from partially hydrogenated cottonseed and soybean oil], partially hydrogenated soybean oil, hydrolyzed soy protein, citric acid, caramel color, vinegar solids), modified food starch, dextrose, caramel color.

For the queezy, you can always take solice in the fact that this sucker's at least 6 grams of fat or less. Hooray!

Kids can be so cruel

February 19, 2006

A UK study reports that weight-challenged school kids are more likely to be picked on then their fitter peers. Among 8000 mini-blokes and birds, 50 percent of the obese ones were more likely to be bullied next year. You know, I for one am outraged by the insincerity of today's youth. Anyway, I'm done blogging. I'm out like a fat girl in dodgeball…

All these year's we've known something so amazing as a nonstick pan was too good to be true. But we just turned our backs to these ugly rumors and fried our eggs-over-easy in ignorance. Well, guess what, teflon's dirty secret is out and the boys at the Environmental Protection Agency wants everyone to know about it: Teflon should be considered a likely carcinogen.

Think you’re so smart huh?

February 16, 2006

Ok, we get it. You're smart. You're way way smarter than me. But when we both get alzheimer's, guess who gets the last laugh? New research suggest that when symptoms of alzheimers appear, cognitive decline happens faster in the better-educated compared to less-educated people. But then again, what do I know, you're the smarter one.

Results from a ridiculously expensive $725 million dollar 7-year Woman's Health Initiative study shows that Calcium and vitamin D supplements failed to prevent fractures in older women. Looks like getting calcium and vitamin D in diary, like milk, is still the better alternative. So I guess we'll be seeing more visits from the milk man, who strangely stopped delivery milk to our house after my little brother was born….hmm…..
